Leander Arts & Culture Plan
An Arts & Culture Plan helps a city plan for how it wants to support and expand its arts and cultural offerings, including public art, museums, performances, community festivals and events, and more. Such plans translate feedback from artists, community and arts organization leaders, and the general public into a series of action steps that advance their shared vision for art and culture.
Arts & Culture Plans address things like: What is the community’s vision for art and culture? Where does arts funding come from and how does it get distributed? What arts organizations already exist, and who is missing from the table? How easy is it for artists and creators to thrive in this place? What barriers do people face to self-expression here, and how can we eliminate or reduce them?
Thinking through questions like these helps make a community’s arts and cultural offerings more prevalent, exciting, representative, and accessible to all!
What’s an Arts & Culture Plan?
The ‘Who’ & ‘Why’ of Leander’s plan.
The City of Leander’s art program is managed by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Leander Public Arts and Culture Commission (LPAC), a group of City Council–appointed commissioners whose job is to promote public art, culture, and education that contributes to a sense of community.
LPAC received funding to update Leander’s 2014–2019 Public Art Master Plan and hired the national arts and culture planning firm Designing Local to manage the process. The updated plan will feature a new mission, vision, and goals that advance culture as well as art in the city! Keep reading to learn how to provide input into the plan.
